Waffles and Pancake: Failure to Lunch (a Graphic Novel)

Waffles and Pancake are so excited to attend a real space shuttle launch. When it is postponed, they are disappointed, but they decide to launch a spaceship of their own. Sure, it's constructed out of cardboard and tape and is named "Fluffles," but they're convinced it will work, and they're just the space cats to make it happen. Together with Mom-Cat, Dad-Cat, Gramps, and Grammers, they conduct science experiments, create prototypes, and run tests (like the reactive properties of vinegar and baking soda). When it launches, holy hairballs, it's pawesome. This prequel series to Brockington's successful graphic novel series CatStronauts is written at a lower reading level and follows one of its main characters when they were a kitten. Enjoyment of each series is not dependent on knowledge of the other; however, there are winking nods sprinkled throughout, like a raffle to attend CatStronaut training at Space Cat Camp. The artwork is simple, the colors are an appealing sherbet rainbow, the humor is accessible, and the graphic novel layout is a solid mix of multi-panel spreads and well-paced splash pages.
